AG069 60mm Persian Indian War Elephant Being Slain by Macedonians (Elephant and 7 Figures)
Special Collectors Set Limited to 95 Sets Available to Customers Worldwide
Please note that there was a packing issue with the elephants resulting in damage to almost every single piece. For those who ordered it and received it damaged, we have either issued a credit or in several cases returned a limited number of units to China to repair and repack. That process is nearly complete, so those of you waiting on your replacements, it won’t be too long now before they are shipped (they will ship at the same time as the current pre-orders). And yes, for the those in the USA, we will pay the tariffs. Sigh. The issue is that we have several of these left and it’s simply too cost prohibitive to return them all to China as we pay duty to enter them into China and then would have to pay tariffs sending them back. So essentially we are clearing these out at about 35% off of the original retail pricing. Yes, what you get will likely be damaged, but in most cases they can be repaired. The issue is primarily the spearman coming off the base and the Persians in the tower coming separated. If you purchase one of these models, you will be purchasing understanding that it is not perfect and no replacements will be provided EXCEPT in cases of extreme damaged. When we say extreme, we mean that. It literally has to be all but destroyed for us to replace it. The good news is that we haven’t seen a single issue where the elephant itself was damaged or came off the base. It’s primarily the figures coming off the base or the figures in the tower coming out of it. We have seen a few issues with the tower coming unassembled. When that happens, if it’s not fixable, we would consider it extreme damage. But understand that in ordering one of these, you know what you are getting. It’s a truly amazingly stunning piece, it’s just a shame that the factory didn’t pack it to our specification.
The Persians used War Elephants raised from Indian territories under Persian rule. They were trained by their “Mahout” (driver) who rode them into battle directing their movements. Other than the driver, other men armed with javelins and bows would ride in the tower on the back of the Elephant to launch missiles into enemy troops. As they were such large beasts their primary purpose was to strike fear into the enemy soldiers, most of which would never have seen such an animal. The results of using them in battle were mixed as they were difficult to control when panicked and were just as likely to trample friends as well as enemies. At Gaugamela Darius had 15 such elephants which were placed at the center of the Persian line where they made quite an impression on the Macedonians facings them. We have recreated the war elephant with an absolutely superb level of sculpting and incredibly intricate hand painting, particularly that on the ornate blankets and cloths which cover the elephants sides, head, and rear making this a unique and incredibly high quality piece. The depiction this time features 3 Macedonians attacking the elephant with a 4th being trampled under foot. For the Persians, there is a Mahout Driver, and 2 men in the Tower, one fighting and the second a casualty. This is a limited edition Special Collectors Set of only 95 pieces available for customers to purchase worldwide.
Assembly Note:
Please note that certain parts of the set MAY be shipped packed unassembled in the shipping carton to prevent damage in transit. The arrows and spears sticking out of the Elephant are examples and possibly the 2 x Macedonians with the spears stabbing the elephant being packed separately and put in place upon receipt. Until we do the drop testing for the packaging, we won't know for sure exactly which parts. The goal of course is to ensure it arrives free of damage while minimizing as much as possible what needs to be done by the collector.
